Hiking in the footsteps of empress sisi

Guided hike, magnificent views and exclusive views on a panoramic tour.

View down to the Gosausee, which Sisi already enjoyed.

What would be the history of Austria without the legendary Empress Sisi? In any case, some stories  poorer! Princess Elisabeth from Bavaria married the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph in 1854 at the age of 16. Sisi, as she was lovingly called by her family, came to Schönbrunn Palace, where she did not feel very comfortable. Again and again the young Empress made excursions, journeys and hikes to escape the narrowness of the Habsburg court in Vienna.

Sisi also came to the Tennengau. In the wonderful hiking area of Dachstein-West Annaberg-Rußbach-Gosau, she forgot her everyday life during the hiking and even had a stay overnight here. From mid-June onwards, this event will take a closer look: we will follow the traces of Empress Sisi!

By the way: Sissi - or Sisi? The well-known film trilogy with the grandiose Romy Schneider is written with double-S, however true connoisseurs swear by a simple S.

The sign at the hut

The former Austrian Empress Elisabeth, who was called Sisi, once spent some nights here.

Rustic and romantic

Exclusive view on the hut

A guided hike on Empress Sisi's footsteps will be organized every Friday from 16 June. Meeting point for the tour is at 9.30 am at the valley station of the Donnerkogelbahn in Annaberg / Astauwinkel. After the ascent, you will pass the Riedlkar, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view over the mountains that Sisi already appreciated. From the Dachstein to the low and high Tauern - on most beautiful days even the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain, is visible - and even to the mystical Untersberg at the gates of the provincial capital of Salzburg. A breathtaking view, but a cozy hike!

Now we continue to the Zwieselalm hut, where the Empress once went to bed. The owners kept the memory and kept the room, which the Empress occupied, in the original state. Is it probably this window, behind which the imperial chamber was?

The hut owner shows into the once imperial sleeping chamber. This special is only offered as part of the guided tour and makes the hike an exclusive experience! There are many nice stories and anecdotes about Sisi's visit and, of course, the life in the area.

Strengthened with delicious alpine products, magnificent impressions and interesting narratives. First direction Gosaukammbahn, which brings the hiking group down to the Vordergosausee. From there sporting ambitious hikers can make a round trip around the lake, others enjoy the view. Together, the hiking bus, which is on duty every Friday, brings all back to the starting point.
